The Texas Police Star: A Perfect Political Storm
AUSTIN-The political circumstances in the state Capitol look bleak for officers and their families this session with growing national resentment toward public employee benefits and state lawmakers looking down the barrel of a $27 billion shortfall.
“We’ve never faced conditions inside the state Capitol quite like these,” said Sgt. Todd Harrison, CLEAT President. “Our Public Affairs team has filed the positive legislation that we would like to see enacted because we have a plan for the future but our job this session is largely defensive. Our lobbyist has warned us that our leaders and members will need to work hard in opposition to a lot of bills this session.”
