LET’S KEEP MORE NAMES OF TEXAS OFFICERS OFF THE MEMORIAL WALL

Texas Police Star
CLEAT has always led the way in making sure that officers killed in the line of duty and their families are appropriately honored and that they are not forgotten…and we will continue with that mission. We don’t, however, believe there should ever be a single name added to that memorial wall that might not be there if those who represent Texas peace officers could have prevented it.

Whatever others may say, including TXDOT and its subsidiary organizations, about “tags in a bag” not being an officer safety issue; every working officer we’ve talked to believes it is a problem. Click on this link www.sayno2tagsinabag.com to see some of the problems with the tags that TXDOT approved. You will no doubt begin seeing these tags on the street in the next few months.

What is really sad about this issue is that it can be corrected with little effort and no expense to the taxpayers. TXDOT has apparently decided to draw a line in the sand without regard for officer safety.
CLEAT is committed to do everything we can to respond to our members and other working peace officers when they tell us they are concerned about this decision by TXDOT. As part of our effort to keep this issue in the minds of those who can correct the bull-headed TXDOT mistake, we are asking any officer, whether or not you are a CLEAT member, to help us. All you have to do is let us know when you encounter a situation that creates a physical danger for you or hampered your ability to gather all the information you need on the street because of these “tags in a bag”. We would also like to hear from you if you just want to know what you can do to help us get this administrative decision reversed.

If you would like to help gather this information you can e-mail a short explanation of the event to us at larry.watts@cleat.org.  Please include telephone contact information when you send the e-mail.

There are times when people and organizations might disagree about government decisions; but at CLEAT we believe there is never a place for disagreement among those who represent peace officers when it comes to officer safety issues. Government agencies, their subsidiaries and apologists and those who say they are a voice for Texas peace officers should always err on the side of caution when considering decisions that might put even a single officer in harm’s way. We are disappointed that any police organization would fail to see the potential danger in using these “tags in a bag” and fail to stand with working officers instead of a large government agency and its taxpayer funded grant dollars.

It is time that TXDOT gets the message! Texas citizens are tired of toll road talk and Texas peace officers won’t stand by while TXDOT unnecessarily endangers the lives of our brother officers. Help us gather information about this bad decision by TXDOT.
