One of CLEAT's top priorities of the 2015 legislative session won passage in the Texas Senate late Tuesday and is now on its way to the desk of Gov. Greg Abbott.

HB 1278, filed at CLEAT's request, would raise the lump-sum death benefit for the survivors of law enforcement officers and firefighters killed in the line of duty to $500,000 and would increase benefits to children.

The CLEAT Public Affairs team lobbied mightily to get this measure passed, and the Senate pushed it over the line with less than a week to go in the session.

Thanks to Rep. Bryan Hughes and Sen. Eddie Lucio for their efforts on this important legislation.
