Representatives from several affiliated locals are in Austin this week to stand strong with the CLEAT Lobby Team to support good bills and fight the bad ones.

Among the bad ones targeted by CLEAT and the locals is House Bill 4042 by Houston Rep. Carol Alvarado.  The bill, if it passes, it could pit county jailers and detention officers against regular county sheriff’s peace officers at the bargaining table in agencies that have collective bargaining.

The measure was scheduled to be heard in the House Urban Affairs Committee on Tuesday, and several CLEAT members have signed up to testify about its many problems. The item was pulled from the agenda without explanation. If a hearing is rescheduled, we'll let you know.
