CLEAT Issues Statement on Dismissal in Officer Krycia Case
AUSTIN, Texas—On November 21st, the Combined Law Enforcement Association of Texas (CLEAT) was made aware of a Motion to Dismiss (MURDER AND DEADLY CONDUCT) in the case against Austin Police Officer Karl Krycia. Officer Krycia and former Austin Police Officer Christopher Taylor responded together to a call for service which involved a male subject with a knife. Krycia and Taylor BOTH responded with deadly force. The officers were members of CLEAT and selected their legal counsel. CLEAT subsequently funded all legal costs accrued throughout the process, and in the case of Officer Krycia, the attorney was Jason English. We are thankful for the deal that Mr. English was able to negotiate for Officer Krycia and commend him for his efforts.
We also recognize the incredible double standard and blatant political persecution that occurred after two Austin Police officers responded to the same call for service and acted in the same manner following their training and the law. Officer Taylor was convicted of deadly conduct; however, his case is under appeal. The Travis County District Attorney, Jose Garza, is engaging in selective prosecution not based in fact or the law, but out of political bias and hate for our men and women in blue.
CLEAT continues to stand by our members in the purposeful war Jose Garza has waged. We stand ready as several of our members remain under indictment in Travis County.
